Saxophone and clarinet tuition to meet your needs

Sheet Music and metronome

Lessons

Lessons in person take place at my home studio in Tamworth, Staffordshire, UK. Lessons are one-to-one, although parents of younger students are welcome to stay. I've got up-to-date DBS and safeguarding training, with certificates available on request.

Lessons are usually once a week, excluding Tamworth school holidays, although this can be negotiated.

Usually I recommend beginners start with 30 minute lessons.

Students come from far and wide, including Tamworth, Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield, Burton-Upon-Trent and the wider South Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands area. I am conveniently located near M42 junction 10.

Sheet Music

Beginners and instrument rental

If you are looking to take up saxophone or clarinet, I will help you get started with a tailored course of lessons. Moving at your own speed, you'll learn to read music and the correct techniques for breathing, embouchure and holding the instrument.

Even if you don't have an instrument yet, get in touch. Many of my students started on a jSAX or Clarineo they rented from me for a time.

I take beginners of all ages: I have taught newcomers between 4 and 75 years of age.

Graduation Ceremony

Exams

Music exams are a great way to set yourself levelled targets.  I work with many of my students towards the saxophone, clarinet and music theory ABRSM grades, an internationally recognised qualification.

Lots of my beginner players start by working on the ABRSM Music Medals.  I'm a trained Teacher Assessor for these qualifications, which introduce solo and duet playing at an accessible level. Because they're submitted online, they're not too stressful and you don't need to go to an exam centre - we record them in my Tamworth studio when you're ready.

Summer Music Performance

Ensemble

Ensemble playing is at the heart of the music I love.

So, to let my students experience it in a safe, relaxed environment, I run sessions for saxophone, clarinet, jSAX and Clarineo ensembles.  These take place at my home studio.

Each group works towards a few pieces which we put on show at our twice-yearly concerts in Tamworth.

Jazz Saxophone Player

Jazz and advanced players

Throughout my career I've been in a range of semi-professional jazz and swing groups, as well as a range of orchestras performing across the nation.

In particular, I specialise in jazz and funk saxophone, being an alumnus of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with the Postgraduate Certificate in Music (Jazz Saxophone Performance).

If you're an experienced player looking to hone your skills or to develop your improvisation skills, I can work with you to develop your sound.
